Khairāgarh is a town in Chhattisgarh, in central India, set in a flat agricultural landscape. From above, the old centre is a dense cluster of lanes and small blocks. The town was once the seat of a princely state, and its royal family is closely tied to its best-known institution: Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, a university devoted to music and the fine arts, founded in 1956.
