The map
Schwarzenberg Map Poster & Print
Schwarzenberg lies in the Ore Mountains of Saxony, in the valley of the Schwarzwasser. The old town stands on a rocky spur above the river, crowned by the castle and the Church of St George. It is often called the pearl of the Erzgebirge. On a map, the compact medieval core contrasts with the looser streets that spread along the valley and up the surrounding slopes.
The town has an unusual place in 20th-century history. At the end of the Second World War, the area around Schwarzenberg was left unoccupied for several weeks by both American and Soviet forces. Local residents ran it themselves. This episode, later called the Free Republic of Schwarzenberg, inspired a novel by Stefan Heym.
A Schwarzenberg map poster captures a mountain town shaped by its river and hills. The tight curve of the old centre, the bend of the valley and the forested heights beyond make a composition with real depth.

Schwarzwasser valley
The river bends through the town and sets out its main direction. The poster follows the valley floor between the hills.
Hillside streets
Newer neighbourhoods climb the surrounding slopes. Their curving roads follow the contours and soften the edges of the plan.
