Suşehri sits in the far northeast of Sivas province, on a wide plain drained by the Kelkit River. The town is the clear focus of the valley. A compact core of streets gathers around the main roads, and past its edges the map opens into a patchwork of fields that reaches the surrounding slopes.

The main roads run through it, linking the area to the rest of Sivas and to the neighbouring provinces of the Black Sea hinterland.
