Aviation Memorial Park
The former airfield is now a wide green space near the centre, its broad, regular outline one of the most recognisable shapes on the Tokorozawa map.

The map
Tokorozawa Map Poster & Print
Tokorozawa lies in southwestern Saitama, on the Musashino plateau just beyond Tokyo's northwestern edge. The land is gently rolling rather than flat, and the map combines dense residential districts around its stations with pockets of farmland and woodland. Seibu railway lines converge at Tokorozawa Station, giving the centre a clear hub from which roads and tracks fan out.
The city holds a notable place in aviation history: Japan's first airfield opened here in 1911. The site is now Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park, a large open space in the middle of the city that stands out strongly on the map. To the southwest, the Sayama Hills hold Lake Sayama and Lake Tama, reservoirs that supply Tokyo.
Those wooded hills are often associated with Hayao Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro, and local efforts to protect the forest carry the film's name. The city is also home to the Seibu Lions' baseball dome. A Tokorozawa map poster brings these pieces together: the station hub, the airfield park, the reservoirs and the quiet mix of town and green.

Sayama Hills reservoirs
To the southwest, two reservoirs lie in wooded hills, their irregular shorelines and surrounding forest forming a calm, open area beyond the city's streets.
Station hub
Several railway lines meet at Tokorozawa Station, and the streets around it form a dense core from which the city spreads out across the plateau.
