The map

About this Nagcarlan map poster

Nagcarlan lies in the province of Laguna, on the upland ground between Laguna de Bay and the mountains of the Banahaw range. The town proper is small and fairly regular around its church and plaza, a pattern inherited from Spanish colonial planning, but roads soon begin to curve as the terrain rises and falls through coconut groves and farmland.

The town is best known for the Nagcarlan Underground Cemetery, built in the nineteenth century under the Franciscan friars and declared a national historical landmark. Its crypt beneath a walled burial ground is unusual in the Philippines. The surrounding countryside is also known for waterfalls fed by streams coming off the mountain.

A Nagcarlan map poster shows a classic Philippine poblacion held within a hilly landscape. The central blocks give a compact, orderly heart, while the outlying roads wander along ridges toward neighbouring barangays. In print, the combination of structure and slope makes for a gentle, well-balanced image.
