Adjud lies in the north of Vrancea County in eastern Romania, near the confluence of the Trotuș and the Siret. The rivers shape the setting. Their broad floodplains, braided channels and gravel bars wind through the lowland beside the town and form an irregular natural edge on the map.
Adjud is also an important railway junction, where major lines through Moldavia meet. On paper the tracks and yards form long straight bands that divide the street plan.
