Ko e mape
Adra is a town in Purulia district in the west of West Bengal, on the edge of the Chota Nagpur plateau. It is best known as a railway town. It is the headquarters of the Adra division of the South Eastern Railway, and much of its layout is organised around the station, the yards and the residential colonies built for railway staff.
On a map, this gives Adra a distinctive double character. The railway lands show up as long, parallel tracks and a planned pattern of quarters, institutional buildings and open grounds. The older town and the surrounding villages have a looser, more organic street pattern. Ponds and small reservoirs, common across Purulia, appear as scattered shapes among the fields.
An Adra map poster captures that meeting of order and informality. The straight lines of rail and colony streets make strong graphic anchors, and the softer village lanes and water bodies fill in around them. The town’s life has long revolved around trains, and the resulting image feels both precise and personal.
Tracks converge on Adra from several directions, and the station and yards form the strongest linear element on the map, reflecting the town’s role as a divisional headquarters.
Planned residential areas for railway staff have a regular layout of roads and quarters that is noticeably more ordered than the rest of the town.
Small ponds and reservoirs are scattered among the farmland on the flat to gently rolling land around Adra, adding round and irregular shapes to the composition.

Ko e ha Adra
Generations of railway families have lived in Adra, often moving on to postings elsewhere in India. A map of the town brings back childhood quarters, school routes and the sound of trains, and it makes a thoughtful gift for a retiring railway employee.
Customise the title and subtitle, for example with a posting year or a family name, and edit the coordinates line. Select Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and download print-ready PDF and 300 DPI PNG files for $9.
