Ko e mape
From above, Bolzano sits in a wide basin where the Talvera flows down from the north and joins the Isarco, which soon meets the Adige to the southwest. The rivers split the city into clear quarters. The medieval core fills the angle between them, and newer districts spread west and south across the valley floor, stopping where the slopes begin.
The old town is a tight grid of narrow lanes around Via dei Portici, the long arcaded street that has been a merchants' corridor since the Middle Ages. Just south of it, Piazza Walther shows up as a clean rectangle. The contrast between these small historic blocks and the broader, more regular streets of the twentieth-century expansion is one of the most readable things on the map.
Bolzano is a bilingual city, Bozen in German, and the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology here holds Ötzi, the Iceman found in the nearby glaciers. A Bolzano map poster keeps what makes the place distinctive: rivers, bridges and a dense core, all held in by mountains that the street network simply cannot climb.
The Talvera and Isarco meet at the edge of the city centre, and their embankments and bridges form strong lines that divide the map into distinct neighbourhoods.
The arcaded main street of the medieval town runs east to west as a narrow, continuous spine, with small lanes and courtyards packed tightly on either side.
The streets stop abruptly where the steep slopes rise, so the city's outline follows the contour of the basin and leaves open space around the built area.

Ko e ha Bolzano
Bolzano suits people who have passed through on the way into the Dolomites, studied or worked here, or grew up between its two languages. The map shows a city shaped plainly by its terrain, which makes for a calm, well-balanced composition on a wall.
