Bor is a town in Niğde Province in the south of Central Anatolia, a short distance from the provincial capital. It lies on a broad high plain with mountains on the horizon, and its streets spread across flat ground in a pattern that mixes an older, irregular core with more regular later growth.
The district has deep roots. Within it lies Kemerhisar, the site of ancient Tyana, a city of the Roman era remembered as the home of the philosopher Apollonius of Tyana. Remains of a Roman aqueduct still stand in the landscape nearby, a reminder of how long people have settled on this plain.
