Bousso is in Chad's Chari-Baguirmi region, southeast of N'Djamena, on the Chari River. The river is the country's great water artery, flowing north toward Lake Chad, and Bousso's position beside it defines both its map and its daily life.
From above, the river dominates. The Chari appears as a broad, meandering band with sandbanks and side channels, and the town's streets are laid out on the dry ground along its bank. Beyond the settlement the map opens into flat country crossed by a few roads and tracks.
