Coffs Harbour sits on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, on the road between Sydney and Brisbane, where the Great Dividing Range comes unusually close to the sea. On a map the city is a narrow strip. Beaches and headlands lie to the east, suburbs spread along the coastal plain, and steep green hills rise only a few kilometres inland.
The harbour is formed by breakwaters, one of which connects the shore to Muttonbird Island, a nature reserve where shearwaters nest. The historic timber jetty extends into the bay nearby. Banana plantations once covered the slopes north of town, and the Big Banana, opened in 1964, is still one of Australia's best-known roadside attractions.
A Coffs Harbour map poster captures the tension between coast and range in one image: curving beaches, creek mouths, the angular harbour walls and the dense contours of the hills behind. At wider scales the Solitary Islands add a scatter of small shapes offshore, giving the sea side of the composition its own quiet detail.
A long stone wall links the mainland to the island and encloses the harbour. It is one of the clearest man-made lines on the coast and immediately recognisable on the map.
The old timber jetty reaches straight out into the bay south of the harbour. It is a thin, precise line against open water that locals and visitors know well.
Forested ranges rise steeply just inland. Winding roads and creek valleys cut into them and give the western half of the poster a dense, organic texture.

Ko e ha Coffs Harbour
Coffs Harbour is a place people keep coming back to: for school holidays, for a sea change, for retirement. A map of the coast and harbour keeps that connection close, whether it hangs in a beach house or in a flat far from the Pacific.
