Darya Khan is in Bhakkar District of Punjab, on the eastern side of the Indus, and its name refers to the river. On a map, the town sits on the edge of a wide floodplain, where the Indus spreads into several channels and sandbanks. To the east the land turns toward the Thal, a sandy desert region that has been partly irrigated over the past century.
The town is a crossing point. A road bridge over the Indus connects this side of Punjab with Dera Ismail Khan on the far bank, and that route gives Darya Khan its importance as a stop on the way west. Roads leading to and from the bridge form the town's main axes.
A Darya Khan map poster pairs a compact town with a very large river. The built-up area is a small, dense patch, the approach roads stretch out toward the Indus, and the floodplain opens up into broad empty space. It is a quiet, spacious print where the landscape carries as much weight as the streets.
To the west, the Indus spreads across a wide floodplain of channels and sandbanks, and it takes up a large part of the frame as open space.
The road toward the Indus bridge and Dera Ismail Khan is one of the town's strongest lines, and it leads the eye straight out of the settlement.
To the east, fields and canals gradually give way to the sandier ground of the Thal, and the map fades into a sparse pattern of roads.
