Dubovka lies in Volgograd Oblast on the right bank of the Volga, north of the city of Volgograd. Here the river has been widened by the Volgograd Reservoir, so on the map the town faces a large sheet of water with the low left bank far away.
The streets form a fairly regular pattern on the rising ground above the shore. Ravines cut down toward the water, and the steppe begins at the town's western edge. The main road north from Volgograd runs past, connecting Dubovka to the chain of settlements along the right bank.
