Ko e mape
Fatwa, also written Fatuha, sits on the south bank of the Ganges a short distance east of Patna. Its setting is defined by the meeting of two rivers: the Punpun flows in from the south-west and joins the Ganges here, and on the map their confluence forms a wide, soft junction of water and sandbanks beside the town.
Fatwa is also a railway junction on the main line along the Ganges, where a branch heads south toward Islampur, and the tracks form strong lines through the settlement. Between river and rail, the old town is a dense web of lanes and markets, while newer building stretches along the highway toward Patna in one direction and Bakhtiyarpur in the other.
Like many towns along the Ganges, Fatwa has riverside ghats where people come to bathe and to mark festivals. A Fatwa map poster presents the town through its relationship with water: the broad Ganges to the north, the Punpun curving in, and the town gathered where land, river and railway come together.
The Punpun joins the Ganges at the edge of town, forming a broad meeting of channels that gives the northern side of the poster its most fluid shapes.
The main line along the Ganges and a branch heading south meet at Fatwa, their tracks cutting clean, confident lines through the street network.
The dense older lanes sit close to the riverbank, with ghats and narrow paths leading down to the water, while newer construction follows the highway.
