Ko e mape
Gumlā is the headquarters of Gumla District in south-western Jharkhand, on the Chota Nagpur Plateau. From above, the town is a compact cluster of streets surrounded by rolling upland, patches of forest and farmland. Main roads lead out toward Ranchi to the north-east and toward the neighbouring districts and states.
The Gumlā map poster shows a town that has grown outward from its market area along a few main roads, with residential lanes filling the spaces between them. Beyond the town the map opens into countryside marked by small streams, ponds and scattered villages, and the uneven ground of the plateau shapes the paths of the roads.
The district has a large Adivasi population, including Oraon and Munda communities, and its forested hills hold several places of pilgrimage. Anjan, a village in the district, is traditionally regarded as the birthplace of Hanuman and draws visitors to its hilltop shrine.
The centre forms a compact grid of streets around the market area. It is the densest and most detailed part of the poster.
Several main roads leave the town in different directions, including the route toward Ranchi. They form the main lines of the map's structure.
Around the town, the rolling ground of the Chota Nagpur Plateau holds farmland, forest and small streams. It gives the edges of the poster an open, natural feel.
