Hīt Map Poster & Print

Hīt lies on the Euphrates in Anbar province, in western Iraq. The river is the defining feature of its map, flowing past in a broad curve with farmland and palm groves along its banks. The old town sits on raised ground close to the water, with newer districts spreading outward along the roads toward the desert.

The town has been inhabited since antiquity and was long known for its natural bitumen springs, which supplied material used in construction and boat building across ancient Mesopotamia. It was also known for its traditional waterwheels, or norias, which lifted river water to irrigate the fields along the banks.

A Hīt map poster shows a settlement shaped by the river and by one of the oldest continuous histories in the region. The Euphrates becomes a strong, curving line, the old town a tight cluster above it, and the desert beyond an open space. It is a meaningful print for people with roots in Anbar.
