Kahoku lies north of Kanazawa on the Sea of Japan side of Ishikawa Prefecture. On a map, the city stretches across flat land between a long straight coastline and the drained lagoon of Kahokugata to the south. Residential areas and roads follow a fairly regular grid, while farmland and rice fields fill much of the surroundings, giving the city a spacious, level character.
Kahoku is the birthplace of Kitaro Nishida, one of Japan's most influential modern philosophers. The Ishikawa Nishida Kitaro Museum of Philosophy, designed by the architect Tadao Ando, stands in the city and draws visitors interested in both philosophy and architecture. It is one of the few landmarks that put Kahoku on the cultural map of Japan.
A Kahoku map poster highlights the clean coastline, the open space of the former lagoon and the organised pattern of roads and fields between them. It is a quiet, balanced image that suits a calm interior and someone with ties to this part of the Hokuriku region.
The city faces the Sea of Japan along a long, nearly straight shoreline with sandy beaches, which on the poster forms a crisp edge against the open water.
To the south lies the area of Kahokugata, a lagoon largely reclaimed for farmland, now a flat expanse of fields crossed by straight drainage channels and roads.
The Nishida Kitaro Museum of Philosophy, designed by Tadao Ando, sits on higher ground in the city and honours the philosopher who was born in Kahoku.

Ko e ha Kahoku
Kahoku suits people who grew up on the Hokuriku coast or who travelled there to see Tadao Ando's museum. Its tidy grid and long shoreline make a composition that feels orderly and reflective.
