Ko e mape
Kanyama lies in Haut-Lomami province in the south of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on the broad plateau that stretches across this part of the country. The land here is savanna and open woodland, and the town's map reflects that setting: a loose network of roads and lanes spread across fairly level ground, with few natural barriers to shape it.
Much of the town is made up of residential streets and compounds laid out along the main routes, and the density falls away gradually toward the edges. Tracks lead out to farmland and neighbouring villages, with streams marking shallow valleys between them. A Kanyama map poster shows a town defined by its roads and by the space around them.
It is not a place that often appears in atlases or travel guides, which is part of why a map of it matters. For families from Haut-Lomami, and for people who have lived or worked in the town, the street pattern is a direct and personal image of home, drawn simply in black and white.
Roads spread over level ground with no hills or coastline to hold them in. The result is a wide, loosely woven pattern that fills the frame evenly.
A few principal roads run through the town and continue across the plateau. They form the strongest lines on the poster and link it to the wider region.
Toward the outskirts, streets give way to tracks, fields and scattered homesteads, so the map fades gradually from dense town into open country.

Ko e ha Kanyama
People from Haut-Lomami who now live elsewhere, in Kinshasa, Lubumbashi or abroad, rarely find their hometown on anything printed. A poster of Kanyama gives it the attention usually reserved for capitals, and gives its streets a place on the wall.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates with a family name or an important date, and choose one of five styles. The HD files cost $9 and cover six print sizes, and printed posters ship from partners in more than 30 countries.
