Ko e mape
Karungappalli, often written Karunagappally, lies in the north of Kollam district in Kerala, close to the Arabian Sea. The town grew along the main coastal highway, now NH 66. On the map that road forms a clear north–south axis, with the dense town centre around it and a fine web of lanes spreading into the surrounding settlements.
To the west, a narrow strip of land separates the backwaters from the sea. The nearby shore is known for its mineral-rich black sand, which has been mined there for decades. Canals and backwater channels, part of the historic inland waterway along Kerala's coast, add long curving lines to the map.
A Karungappalli map poster shows a landscape where water and settlement are closely intertwined. There is no sharp edge between town and country: houses, trees and paths continue in every direction, broken only by canals and the coastline. In black and white the result has a soft, detailed texture quite unlike a grid city.
The main north–south road runs through the town centre. It forms the strongest straight line on the map and the axis of the town's commercial life.
Canals and lagoons run parallel to the coast west of town, drawing long, smooth water lines through the densely settled land.
The coastline forms a clean edge on the western side of the map, where a narrow strip of land separates the backwaters from the open sea.
