Kushtia lies in the Khulna Division of western Bangladesh, on the Gorai River, a distributary of the Padma. The river is the defining line on the map. It sweeps past the town and sets the direction of the main roads. Streets and neighbourhoods gather close to the bank, then spread out across flat delta farmland crossed by smaller channels and ponds.
Kushtia holds an important place in Bengali culture. The shrine of the mystic poet and singer Lalon Shah stands at Cheuriya on the edge of town, and every year it draws devotees and musicians. Nearby, at Shilaidaha, Rabindranath Tagore managed his family estates and wrote some of his best-known work in a riverside house that is now a museum.
A Kushtia map poster brings together the curve of the Gorai, the railway and roads that tie the town to the rest of the country, and the scattered water bodies of the delta landscape. It makes a meaningful piece for anyone who grew up here, studied nearby, or feels a connection to the songs that began on these riverbanks.
The broad Gorai, a branch of the Padma, sweeps past the town and dominates the composition, with the densest streets lined up along its bank.
The shrine of Lalon Shah at Cheuriya sits on the town's edge, a place of pilgrimage and music that anchors Kushtia's cultural identity.
Small ponds, canals and seasonal channels are scattered across the surrounding land, adding soft, irregular shapes between the fields and villages on the poster.
