Larnaca spreads along a wide bay on the southeastern coast of Cyprus. Its seafront, the Finikoudes promenade, runs as a long, straight edge lined with palms, with the marina and port at its northern end. Behind it, the old town is a dense web of narrow streets, while newer districts extend inland and along the coast in both directions.
Southwest of the centre lies Larnaca Salt Lake, a large, shallow basin that fills in winter and draws flamingos. On the lake's shore stands Hala Sultan Tekke, a mosque set among palms that is an important site in Cypriot Islam.
