Ko e mape
Lima lies on a dry coastal plain between the Pacific and the foothills of the Andes. The historic centre sits beside the Rímac River, laid out as a regular grid after Francisco Pizarro founded the city in 1535. From the Plaza Mayor the blocks extend in even squares, a pattern that still defines the core and shows clearly on the map.
South of the centre, the city runs toward the sea through districts such as San Isidro, Miraflores and Barranco, which sit on top of steep cliffs above the Costa Verde. A coastal highway follows the base of the cliffs, while parks line the edge above. Among the streets, adobe platforms such as Huaca Pucllana survive from pre-Inca cultures, forming unusual open shapes.
Lima is one of the largest cities in the world built in a desert; it rarely rains, and a low grey sky covers the coast for much of the winter. The metropolitan area merges with Callao, the port to the west. A Lima map poster brings together the colonial grid, the river and the long curve of the coast in a single frame.

A long line of cliffs along the bay, running from Chorrillos past Barranco and Miraflores. On the poster it appears as a clean division between the street grid and the ocean.
A large adobe platform in Miraflores, built centuries before the Spanish arrived. It sits among modern apartment blocks as an irregular, open patch within the grid.

Ko e ha Lima
Lima has a way of drawing people back, for its food, its coast and its old centre. A map poster suits someone who lived in Miraflores or Barranco, or whose family came from the city and later settled abroad.
Add a title, a subtitle for a date or a family name, and edit the coordinates line if needed. Choose one of five styles; Sand echoes the desert light and Classic black & white keeps the grid sharp. Digital files cost $9, with a free preview first.
