Mandlā is in eastern Madhya Pradesh, on the upper course of the Narmada River. From above its shape is striking: the river loops around the town on three sides, so the old settlement sits on a near-peninsula of land. On the map the wide river channel forms a strong, curving border around the streets.
The town was an important seat of the Gond kingdom, and remains of that period, including the palace at Ramnagar downstream, still stand in the area. Ghats line the riverbanks, and bridges cross the Narmada to newer districts. Mandlā district also includes much of Kanha National Park, one of India's best-known tiger reserves.
A Mandlā map poster is defined by the river. The loop of the Narmada encloses the town almost completely, and the streets fill the land inside it. Bridges and roads lead outwards in a few directions. It is an unusually clear and memorable shape for a small town, and it works very well as a poster.
The river curves around the town on three sides. On the poster this wide, curving channel is the most striking feature.
Steps and landings line the banks of the Narmada where people come to bathe and pray. On the map they sit along the edge of the loop.
Bridges cross the river to newer areas and link the town with the roads beyond. They are the main connections out of the loop.

Ko e ha Mandlā
For people from Mandlā, the loop of the Narmada is instantly recognisable, and the town's shape has a real sense of identity. Visitors on their way to Kanha may remember it too. It is a distinctive map for a wall.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, and choose from five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download the $9 HD files in six sizes, or order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
