Ko e mape
Māndvi lies on the southern coast of Kutch in Gujarat, where the Rukmavati River reaches the Gulf of Kutch. The map is shaped by water on two sides. The river estuary cuts along the town's edge, and to the south a long, straight beach faces the open sea. Between them, the old town is a tight mesh of narrow lanes that loosens into newer districts inland.
For centuries Māndvi was an important port for trade across the Arabian Sea to Arabia and East Africa. It is still known for building wooden dhows by hand along the riverbank, a tradition carried on in the same yards for generations. Near the coast stands the Vijay Vilas Palace, built as a summer residence for the rulers of Kutch.
A Māndvi map poster shows a port town drawn by the sea: the curve of the estuary, the long line of the shore and the old quarter pressed between them. In monochrome the coastline gives the composition a strong base. It suits people from Kutch, sailors and anyone who remembers the town's beach and shipyards.
The river mouth runs along the town's edge, with its banks home to the dhow-building yards that have made Māndvi known far beyond Gujarat.
A straight, open beach runs along the Gulf of Kutch, forming a clean coastal line across the lower part of the poster.
The historic centre is a dense tangle of narrow streets, a street pattern that grew up around centuries of maritime trade.

Ko e ha Māndvi
A map of Māndvi connects to the sea: a merchant family history, childhood summers on the beach, the smell of timber in the shipyards. It is an easy map to live with, with water giving it shape and the old lanes giving it detail.
