Mombaça is a municipality in central Ceará, deep in the Brazilian sertão, far from the coast. The town itself is small and orderly. A grid of streets surrounds a central square and church, and the town gives way quickly to open land. The landscape around it is semi-arid, with low hills and scattered farms.
Water plays a large role here. Reservoirs and seasonal streams appear across the region, and on the map they are some of the few curving, organic shapes.
