Mwansabombwe is a town in Zambia's Luapula Province and the seat of the Mwata Kazembe, paramount chief of the Eastern Lunda. The kingdom's history reaches back several centuries. Each year the town hosts the Mutomboko ceremony, a celebration of the Lunda migration and conquest that draws visitors from across the country.
The town lies in the Luapula valley, a short distance from the Luapula River, which forms the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo before flowing into Lake Mweru to the north. On a map the settlement follows the main valley road. Homesteads and fields spread out on either side, and streams run down across the valley floor towards the river.
A Mwansabombwe map poster places a ceremonial capital within its river landscape. The road through the valley gives the drawing its direction, and the waterways add softer, curving lines. The result is a composition that ties the town to the geography that shaped the kingdom's history.

The river runs nearby along the Zambia–Congo border, flowing north to Lake Mweru. On the map it forms a long, meandering line that bounds the valley.
The town is laid out along the main road through the Luapula valley. Homes and fields line it for some distance on either side.
