Near town the highway from Windhoek splits: one route continues north and the other heads west toward the coast. The result is a clear intersection of long lines on the map.

Okahandja lies in central Namibia, about 70 kilometres north of Windhoek on the B1, the country's main north–south highway. It is a crossroads town. The road west to the coast begins here, and the railway passes through on its way inland. These routes shape the town on the map, and its streets gather where the roads and tracks converge.
The Okahandja River runs past the town as a wide sandy bed that carries water only after rain, which is common in this dry country. The streets on its banks stop at the edge of the riverbed and leave a broad blank strip in the map. Beyond the built-up area the savanna stretches out in every direction, crossed only by farm roads and tracks.
The town holds a central place in Herero history. Several important Herero leaders are buried here, and an annual commemoration draws people from across the country. Okahandja is also known for the large woodcarvers' markets along its main road. An Okahandja map poster records a small town at an important meeting point of roads, river and history.
Near town the highway from Windhoek splits: one route continues north and the other heads west toward the coast. The result is a clear intersection of long lines on the map.
The mostly dry Okahandja River forms a wide open band beside the town, where the streets end and the map opens into empty space.
The railway runs alongside the main roads as a thin, straight line that adds structure to the town's modest grid of streets.

Ko e ha Okahandja
Okahandja matters to Herero families, to Namibians who pass through on every trip north, and to travellers who stopped at its carvers' markets. Its map shows a town defined by crossings, and it makes a thoughtful, simple wall piece.
