Ko e mape
Pazardzhik lies on the Maritsa River in the western part of the Upper Thracian Plain, with the Rhodopes to the south and the Sredna Gora to the north. The river runs along the northern side of the town. On the map it appears as a wide, curving line lined with trees and embankments, and the streets of the centre spread south from it.
The town was founded in the late fifteenth century as a market settlement, and its name comes from the word for market. The historic core still keeps a knot of irregular streets around the main square. Around it, later districts spread out in more regular blocks, and the fields of the plain press close on almost every side.
A Pazardzhik map poster shows a town defined by its river and its flatness. The Maritsa gives the composition a strong curve, the old centre forms a dense core, and the surrounding farmland adds a fine, even texture. It is a composed, readable map for a place with a long history as a trading town.
Bulgaria's longest river flows along the town's northern edge. On the poster, its curving course and embankments form the main natural line.
The irregular streets near the central square recall the town's origins as a market settlement and contrast with the grid-like districts that grew around them.
This church, known for its carved wooden iconostasis, stands in the old centre. On the map it sits within the older, tighter street pattern.
