Shuitu lies in the Beibei district of Chongqing, on the banks of the Jialing River north of the city centre. On a map, the river curves past the town, and the surrounding land is hilly, as it is across much of Chongqing. Streets bend around the slopes, and the built-up area follows the flatter ground.
In recent years the area has grown as part of Chongqing's development to the north, with new roads, business parks and residential districts.
