Sihor lies in Bhavnagar district in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, west of Bhavnagar city. From above the town sits at the foot of a line of low, rocky hills. Its older quarters are made up of narrow, irregular lanes, while newer districts and roads spread across the flatter land beyond.
Sihor served as a capital of the Gohil rulers before they moved to the coast and founded Bhavnagar in the eighteenth century. A hilltop temple to the goddess Sihori Mata overlooks the town, and Sihor has long been known in the region for its brass and copper metalwork.
