Spruce Grove lies just west of Edmonton in central Alberta, next to its neighbour Stony Plain. Its map is shaped by two contrasting systems: the survey grid that divides the surrounding prairie into straight roads and square parcels, and the curving streets of the residential neighbourhoods that fill the spaces inside it. The Yellowhead Highway runs along the city's northern edge towards Edmonton.
The older centre sits near the railway, where the streets are straighter and more regular. Moving outward, the pattern shifts to loops, crescents and cul-de-sacs, many of them wrapped around small parks, ponds and school grounds. Trails and green corridors run between the neighbourhoods, and farmland begins abruptly where development stops.
Spruce Grove has grown quickly as a commuter city, and its map shows that growth in layers, each ring of neighbourhoods a little newer than the last. A Spruce Grove map poster makes those layers legible, with the square prairie grid framing the softer, rounded forms of suburban planning in a way you rarely notice from street level.
Highway 16 draws a firm straight line along the northern side of the city, a strong edge that anchors the composition and points east towards Edmonton.
Residential areas are built from curving streets and cul-de-sacs, forming rounded clusters that look almost organic against the rigid geometry of the prairie roads.
Small ponds set within the neighbourhoods appear as smooth, solid shapes, often ringed by paths, giving each area a clear focal point on the print.
