Ko e mape
Susono lies in Shizuoka Prefecture on the south-eastern foot of Mount Fuji, with the Hakone mountains to the east. The whole city sits on a long, gradual slope. Streets and settlements concentrate in the lower valley, and roads climb north-west through fields, golf courses and forest towards the volcano. The Tomei Expressway crosses the lower part of the city.
Much of the map reflects the mountain's influence. There are wide open areas, few cross streets on the upper slopes, and land given over to leisure and research. Fuji Safari Park is on the higher ground. Toyota has long had a technical centre in the area, and its experimental Woven City project is also being built in Susono.
A Susono map poster shows a place in the shadow of Japan's best-known mountain, even though the peak itself sits just beyond the frame. Dense streets below give way to long roads climbing the slope. It is a map with a strong sense of direction, always tilted towards Fuji.
The upper part of the city rises steadily towards Mount Fuji. Roads there are long and sparse, showing how the land opens up as it climbs.
The main settlements and railway lie in the lower valley between Fuji and Hakone. That is where the street pattern becomes densest and most detailed.
The Tomei Expressway passes through the lower part of the city. It adds a smooth, sweeping line across the finer grain of local streets.

Ko e ha Susono
Susono makes a good gift for anyone who has lived, worked or travelled near Mount Fuji. The map carries the pull of the mountain without needing to show it, and its long lines suit tall formats well.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line to mark a stay, a move or a family connection. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper and Sand suit the soft slopes nicely.
