Vellakkinar is a locality on the northern side of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. Like many areas around the city, it has changed quickly as Coimbatore has grown, and residential layouts now cover land that was once mostly farmland. To the west the Western Ghats rise above the plain, giving this part of the city a mountain backdrop.
