The town core
Streets gather tightly where main routes meet, forming a small, dense centre that stands out clearly against the surrounding rural land.

De kaart
Jiaping Map Poster
Jiaping lies in the municipality of Chongqing, in the hilly country southwest of the city centre. The terrain here is folded into ridges and small valleys, and from above the town appears as a compact cluster of streets set into the landscape, with roads that curve and switch back as they follow the contours of the hills.
This part of Chongqing is largely rural, with terraced fields, ponds and scattered farm settlements covering the slopes between towns. The built area tends to concentrate along main roads and at valley junctions, while smaller paths spread into the surrounding countryside. That relationship between terrain and road is what gives local maps their character.
A Jiaping map poster shows this in fine detail: a dense core of streets, winding roads leading out between hills, and the small, irregular shapes of ponds and reservoirs among the fields. Without any colour or relief shading, the pattern of lines alone conveys the unevenness of the land, which makes for an unusually expressive black-and-white print.

Contour roads
Roads bend and loop to follow the hills rather than running straight, giving the map a flowing, almost hand-drawn quality.
Ponds and fields
Small ponds and reservoirs appear throughout the countryside, scattered among terraced farmland and adding soft shapes to the composition.
