The map
Nsukka lies on an upland plateau in the north of Enugu State, in south-eastern Nigeria. The terrain is noticeably hilly, and on a map the roads follow ridges and valleys rather than a grid, winding between rounded hills that are left largely unbuilt. The town centre and its market sit along the main road, while villages spread out around it in loose clusters.
Nsukka is best known for the University of Nigeria, founded in 1960 under the leadership of Nnamdi Azikiwe as the country's first fully fledged indigenous university. Its campus is one of the largest features on the map, a planned area of roads, halls and open grounds laid out on its own terms beside the older town.
The university has shaped much of Nsukka's growth, bringing staff housing, student lodgings and small businesses along the roads leading to its gates. An Nsukka map poster shows the balance between campus and town, and between built areas and the surrounding hills, a portrait of a place where many Nigerians spent some of their most formative years.

Rounded hills rise between the settlements and roads wind around them, leaving open shapes on the map that give Nsukka a much softer outline than a lowland town.
The commercial heart gathers along the main road near the market, where streets become shorter and closer together, forming the densest part of the poster.
