Bashan is a town in Jiangxi province in south-eastern China and the seat of Chongren County, in the prefecture of Fuzhou. Like many county towns in the region, it combines an older centre of closely set streets with newer districts of broader roads and larger blocks. These newer districts were built as the town expanded outward over recent decades.
The countryside in this part of Jiangxi is a landscape of low hills, rice fields, ponds and small rivers, and the town's outline reflects it. Building follows the flatter ground.
