Fardīs sits just southwest of Karaj, in the urban belt that runs west from Tehran along the foot of the Alborz mountains. It grew quickly over a few decades as a residential town for people working in the region. You can see that on the map: it is a dense, largely regular pattern of long parallel streets and narrow blocks on flat ground.
The regularity comes from rapid, plot-by-plot development rather than a monumental master plan. Main avenues run through the town and link it to Karaj and the highways toward the capital. Smaller lanes fill the spaces between them. The mountains to the north are not part of the city, but they set the direction of the whole region.
