Hoskote lies east of Bengaluru, on Old Madras Road, which heads toward Kolar and Chennai. The map shows an older town centre with narrow streets. Around it, newer layouts and industrial areas have grown along the highway as the city's growth has spread outward. The effect is a clear contrast between old, dense streets and wide new roads.
A large lake lies next to the town. It is one of the many tanks built across the Karnataka plateau to catch monsoon rain, and it is the largest open shape on the map. Its irregular shoreline breaks up the pattern of streets and fields and gives the town a natural edge.
