Jirapur is a town in Rajgarh district, in the north-western part of Madhya Pradesh, where the Malwa plateau reaches toward the border with Rajasthan. On the map it forms a compact core of close-set streets, the familiar shape of a market town, with roads extending outward toward the surrounding villages.
Beyond the town the land is open and agricultural, divided into fields that change through the monsoon and winter crop seasons. In black and white those fields fade into calm space. What remains is the network of roads, village tracks and small bodies of water that links Jirapur to its hinterland.
