Namanyere is the headquarters of Nkasi District in Tanzania's Rukwa Region. It stands on the plateau above the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika. The town grew around the roads that link the district's farming villages, so from above it looks more like a crossroads than a planned centre: a core of market streets, with plots and fields spreading out in every direction.
