South Fulton is a young city. It was incorporated in 2017 from unincorporated land in southern Fulton County, and its map reflects decades of suburban growth rather than a single historic centre. Seen from above, it is a loose mesh of arterial roads with looping subdivisions, cul-de-sacs and patches of woodland filling the spaces between them.
The Chattahoochee River traces much of the western edge, winding through forest with very little development along its banks. To the east, the network tightens as it approaches the interstate corridors and the area around Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where long straight highways cut across the softer residential pattern.
Because there is no grid to organise it, the city reads as clusters: neighbourhoods tied to a few main roads, each with its own branching shape.
