Tromsdalen is the mainland district of Tromsø in northern Norway, well above the Arctic Circle. It faces Tromsøya island across the narrow Tromsøysundet strait. From above, it is a narrow band of settlement squeezed between the water and a steep mountainside, with a valley opening inland behind it. The Tromsø Bridge crosses the sound in one long line to the city centre on the island.
Tromsdalen's best-known building is the Arctic Cathedral, whose stepped, triangular form stands near the bridgehead. Farther up the slope, the Fjellheisen cable car climbs to the Storsteinen viewpoint above the town. Residential streets curve across the lower hillside, and the higher ground becomes open mountain.

The cathedral stands close to the bridge on the Tromsdalen side, one of the most recognisable modern churches in Scandinavia.
