The map

About this Peddāpuram map poster

Peddāpuram is a town in coastal Andhra Pradesh, between Rajahmundry and Kakinada, in the fertile country of the Godavari delta. The land is flat, green and crossed by irrigation channels. On a map the town appears as a dense core of streets and lanes surrounded by paddy fields and neighbouring villages, with main roads leading out toward Samalkot and Kakinada.

The town has a long past as the seat of a local ruling family, and its older quarters keep the close, irregular street pattern of an old market centre. At the edge of town, a rocky hill known as Pandavula Metta is linked in local tradition with the Pandavas of the Mahabharata. It is one of the few breaks in an otherwise level landscape.

A Peddāpuram map poster brings out the contrast between the tight lanes of the old town and the calmer lines of the canals and roads around it. It suits families with roots in the Godavari region, and anyone who wants a map that captures the texture of a working delta town.

01

Old town lanes

The historic centre forms a fine, irregular mesh of streets. It is the densest part of the map and a sign of the town's long history as a market centre.

02

Delta canals

Irrigation channels run across the surrounding plain in long lines, adding subtle linework between the fields.

03

Pandavula Metta

This rocky hill at the edge of town is linked by local tradition to the Pandavas. It is a well-known landmark and an unusual break in the flat delta country.
