The map

About this Peliyagoda map poster

Peliyagoda is on the northern bank of the Kelani River, directly across from Colombo, in Sri Lanka's Western Province. On a map the river is the defining feature. It winds along the southern edge of the town, and the bridges carrying traffic into the capital are the key crossing points. Low-lying wetland and dense streets fill the land north of the river.

The town is an important transport junction. It is the starting point of the expressway toward Katunayake and the international airport, and it is home to the large central fish market that supplies much of the Colombo area. A Peliyagoda map poster shows that concentration of roads, interchanges and waterfront around the river crossing.

In monochrome, the curve of the Kelani sets against the straight lines of the expressway and the tight local street network. The print presents Peliyagoda as the city's northern gateway, a place defined by connections.

01

Kelani River

The river curves along Peliyagoda's southern side and separates it from Colombo. Its wide, winding course is the most prominent natural line on the map.

02

River crossings

Bridges over the Kelani connect Peliyagoda to the capital. On the map they are short, deliberate lines, marking where traffic from the north enters the city.

03

Expressway start

The expressway toward Katunayake begins here. Its interchanges and wide, straight course stand out against the dense and irregular local street network.
