About this Plainview map poster
Plainview is the seat of Hale County, on the Llano Estacado of the Texas South Plains, between Lubbock and Amarillo. The land here is among the flattest in North America. The town is laid out on a clean grid of streets that extends outward until it meets circular irrigated fields and straight section-line roads.
Interstate 27 runs north and south along the town. Running Water Draw, a shallow drainage that crosses the plains, winds through Plainview and gives the grid one of its few curves. Grain elevators, rail lines and agricultural businesses reflect the town's role in a major farming region. Plainview is also home to Wayland Baptist University, whose campus sits within the town.
