The map

About this Pljevlja map poster

Pljevlja sits in a broad upland basin in the far north of Montenegro, close to the borders with Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Ćehotina River crosses the valley floor, and the town spreads around it. Hills rise on every side, and the high pastures of the plateau lie beyond them.

It is one of the country's older towns, with Ottoman-era heritage. The best known is the sixteenth-century Husein Pasha Mosque, whose slender minaret is a local landmark. In more recent times, the town has been shaped by coal mining and the nearby thermal power plant, which remain part of both its economy and its landscape.

A Pljevlja map poster shows a town defined by its basin. The older centre forms a compact tangle of streets near the river, while newer districts and industrial areas stretch across the flatter ground. Roads climb out toward the surrounding villages and give the edges of the sheet a radiating, organic pattern.

01

Ćehotina River

The river runs through the valley floor and gives the town its central axis. Bridges and riverside streets follow its gentle curves.

02

Historic centre

Around the Husein Pasha Mosque, older streets bend and branch irregularly, in clear contrast to the straighter blocks of later housing.

03

Upland basin

Surrounding hills push the town into an elongated valley. Roads leaving the basin trace switchbacks and ridges at the poster's edges.

Why Pljevlja

A map that means something

Pljevlja is a place people carry with them: cold winters, the mosque by the old streets, the ridge lines around the valley. A map of the basin is a precise and understated way to keep that home in view.
