About this Prangli map poster
Prangli lies in the Gulf of Finland a short distance off the north coast of Estonia, northeast of Tallinn beyond the Viimsi Peninsula. It is small, low and fairly compact, covered with pine forest, juniper and meadow, with sandy and stony shores and a few tiny islets nearby. The map shows a quiet network of tracks linking its villages.
The island has three small villages and a permanent community that has lived from the sea for generations, which is unusual for a place so close to the capital. Boats cross from the mainland near Viimsi, and life follows the seasons. In summer the island becomes a day trip for visitors from Tallinn looking for somewhere slower.
