About this Qeładizê map poster
Qeładizê is the main town of the Pshdar district in the Sulaymaniyah governorate of Iraqi Kurdistan, close to the border with Iran. The town lies in an open valley with mountains all around it. On a map the built-up area looks like a patch of streets laid out on level ground, and the roads leaving it follow the valleys toward nearby villages and the border crossings.
The town has an important place in modern Kurdish memory. In April 1974 it was bombed from the air while it was home to a university, and the attack is still remembered every year. Today Qeładizê is a regional centre for the farms and villages of Pshdar.
