The map

About this Reconquista map poster

Reconquista lies in the north of Santa Fe province, Argentina, close to the western edge of the wide Paraná river system. On a map the town is a clear example of the Argentine grid: square blocks laid out in even rows, broken by plazas and a few diagonal roads. To the east, streets give way to low ground where channels and lagoons wind through the floodplain.

The town grew as a centre for the farming country around it, and cotton, sunflower and cattle have long shaped its economy. It merges with Avellaneda just to the north, so the two grids read almost as a single settlement from above. National Route 11 carries traffic north and south along the western side.

A Reconquista map poster sets the precise grid against the irregular water to the east. The blocks look almost woven, and the plazas show as small open squares at regular intervals. Toward the river the lines thin out into a pattern of streams and marsh edges, which in black and white is one of the most striking parts of the map.

01

Checkerboard centre

Evenly sized square blocks run in straight rows around the central plaza. It is the classic Argentine town plan, sharp and very legible on a print.

02

Paraná wetlands

East of town the ground drops into the floodplain. Winding channels and lagoons replace streets and contrast with the rigid grid.

03

Joined with Avellaneda

To the north the grid carries straight into neighbouring Avellaneda, making one continuous built-up area from above.

Why Reconquista

A map that means something

Reconquista is a place people come back to, whether they grew up among its plazas or have family in the surrounding farmland. Its orderly plan makes a calm, balanced image that works well in a hallway or above a desk.

You can add a personal title, a subtitle such as a year, and your own coordinates line. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download the HD files for $9, or order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
