The map

About this Rosamond map poster

Rosamond lies in the Antelope Valley in southeastern Kern County, California, on the western edge of the Mojave Desert. On the map it reads as a loose grid of long, straight roads laid across flat ground. Large parcels leave open space between the streets, and the desert shows through everywhere.

To the east lies Rosamond Dry Lake, a broad, flat lakebed next to Edwards Air Force Base, where aviation and aerospace have long been part of local life. Highway 14 runs north–south past the town and connects it to Lancaster, Palmdale and the Los Angeles basin. The nearby hills were once mined for gold.

A Rosamond map poster captures the openness of the high desert. The grid stretches toward the horizon, most development lies near the highway, and the empty lakebed forms a pale, clean-edged shape. It is a sparse, graphic composition in which space matters as much as streets.

01

Rosamond Dry Lake

East of town, the large dry lakebed forms a smooth, open shape with a crisp outline. It is the most dramatic natural feature on the map.

02

Desert grid

Straight roads laid out on a wide grid cover the valley floor. Many blocks are only partly built, giving the map a spacious, geometric look.

03

Highway 14 corridor

The highway runs along the town in a strong north–south line and ties Rosamond to the rest of the Antelope Valley.

Why Rosamond

A map that means something

People connected to Rosamond often have a link to aerospace, the base or the high desert itself. A map of the grid and the lakebed captures the scale and quiet of the place in a way photographs rarely do.

Personalise the title, add a date or the coordinates of your house, and pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand suits the desert particularly well. HD files cost $9, and printed posters ship from partners in 30+ countries.
